Can we talk… about fad diets?

Let's play a game... how many fad diets can you name in 10 seconds? Ready? Go! If you're like me, you can't seem to keep up with the flavors of the week, because well, there seems to be a new way to lose weight every. single. day. In all of my nutrition courses I can honestly say not one professor, one textbook, one lecture, mentioned recommending a single fad diet (ie ketogenic, intermittent fasting, paleo, etc.) for lasting weight loss—why? Because they're just not sustainable for most people.

Think about it, a super restrictive diet may be effective at trimming your fat, but what happens when you get off track (enter the holiday season, traveling, final exams, a stressful work quarter, a break up, a new relationship, financial troubles, taco Tuesday etc.)? You gain it alllll back, right?

The thing with health (not just weight loss) is sustainability. You want to make long-lasting lifestyle changes that you can actually live with, not just get through for a week or month or what have you. Your diet should evolve as you do, and if there is anything I can stress enough about eating, it's the importance of listening to your body. AKA eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full, and stick to the foods that make you FEEL your best, in body and in mind.

Take the first step to ditching the diet mentality here.
